I recently had the pleasure of chairing a panel for Privacy and Data Security Compliances at INBA National Law Day Conference held on Nov. 26 at Shangri-La Eros, New Delhi exploring the key elements,  challenges and leading practices by large MNC companies in India. I had the privilege to interact with five great panelists, all from different fields and areas: Mr. Stephen Pound, Member of Parliament for Ealing North, United Kingdom, Mr. Joginder Yadav, General Counsel-Cisco Systems India, Anubhav Bathla, CISO from SDP corp., Ms. Vidya Mohan, Partner-GT and Srinjoy Banerjee, AVP-IP & Data Privacy, Genpact.

Mr. Stephen Pound shared his views on the invalidity of the EU-US Safe harbor principles and what should companies that were relying on the Safe Harbor do to seek lawful ways to transfer data out of the European Economic Area. Anubhav shared his views from a CISO perspective on the organization’s purview of privacy compliance and how the role as an CISO cater to the growing needs of privacy compliance. Joginder highlighted some of the leading practices for in-house counsels in implementing and maintaining successful data security and privacy practices for an organization while Srinjoy deliberated on some of the current challenges faced by an organization in the outsourcing sector when Client PII is involved. Vidya highlighted few scenarios where organization’s risk appetite was exposed due to lack of privacy program compliance and shared some of the best practices to overcome such risk exposure of non-compliance.
